Help with Map Creation

When you create or edit a map, you can setup the map's height, width, initial starting point, and options. Then just cut and paste it into your blog or website for everyone else to see and use. We keep the data up to date for you!

Map Dimensions

The maps you embed should be a minimum size to display properly. If you want to have the dynamic address search on your map, then it should be at least 620 pixels wide. If you don't want people to change the center of the map with the address search, and just want to show a map with the closest data, then it should be 210 pixels minimum. We recommend a minimum height of 200 pixels for all maps.

Map Type

You can select which type of map you want on your site. Choose from the available Metro Mapper maps. When we add new maps to the site, we'll update the available maps as well. If you want to create a map with your own custom data in it, contact us and we can enable that feature in your interface.

Map Site Domain

This is the address of the website you will be using your map on. Each map can only be used on 1 domain. So if you want to use a map on 2 different sites or blogs, create a new map with that domain. The domain should be the full address, like "www.metromapper.org" or "metromapper.blogspot.com".

Map Center and Zoom

You can drag the map and center icon around to specify the starting location of your map's data. Once you preview your map, you'll see the closest data to the center of your map. You can also set the starting zoom level by clicking the [+] and [-] buttons on the map. Watch the Latitude and Longitude and Zoom update automatically in the text fields to the left of the Preview Map.

Map Controls

Select which controls you want to have and watch the result in the preview map. You may want to remove some of them if your map is small.

Help with Embedding

Each map you create can only be embedded in one website. If you need it on more than one site, just create another similar map. There is no limit to the number of maps you can create.

If your embedded map will get more than about 200 hits per day, then you should contact us for a commercial license. After your bandwidth limit is reached, your users will see a message instead of the interactive map. It is reset the next day for another 200 users.

To embed your map, you will cut and paste the code at the bottom of the map Preview page into your website. Contact your webmaster if you need help. You can paste it into a new post on your blog as well.

FAQ and Common Issues

Q: When I view my map on my website, it says it's the wrong domain or site.
A: The map can only be used on the website domain you entered when you created the map, for example. If this is wrong, edit your map to update to the correct domain. If this doesn't work, contact us and we'll help you out.

Q: When I view my map, it says I've reached my bandwidth limit.
A: This means that more than about 200 people have viewed your map today, which means you have a high traffic site and require a commercial license from us. Most people will never reach this bandwidth limit. If you wait until the next day, your counter will be reset and people can view your map again. Previewing and searching on your map on the Metro Mapper site does not count a view.

Q: It says my map has been deleted.
A: That means you or someone who you gave access to your account has deleted your map. Contact us and we'll see if we can restore it, or you can create a new map.

Q: I'm having trouble registering or logging in.
A: If you are having issues, please contact us, and we can reset your password or help you register or login.
